Mike Daube is an Emeritus Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University, where he was a Professor of Health Policy and Director of the Public Health Advocacy Institute. He has worked on tobacco since 1973 when he was the first full-time Director of ASH (Action on Smoking and Health) in the UK. He has held senior positions in government, including Director General of Health for Western Australia and Chair of the National Public Health Partnership, and has been a leading figure in national and international action and research on tobacco, alcohol, gambling and other public health issues for several decades. He has been President of the Australian Council on Smoking and Health, and the Public Health Association of Australia, Chair of the Australian Government’s Tobacco Expert Committee that recommended tobacco plain packaging, chair or member of many further national and international committees and organisations and remains active on tobacco issues, including with the World Health Organization, where he is a member of the Tobacco Regulation committee. He has received many national and international awards, including AO (Officer in the Order of Australia) and Western Australian of the Year.
